The Cherry MX Ultra Low Profile (MX ULP for short) is a mechanical low-profile butterfly-type scissor switch from Cherry.
It is not compatible with its namesakes Cherry MX or Cherry MX Low Profile in any way, but uses a similar metal contact mechanism and a coiled spring.
Description[edit | edit source]
The switch has a butterfly-type scissor mechanism made of stainless steel in an undercarriage of metal and plastic. The height is 3.5 mm, not including thicknesses of keycap and PCB.
Unlike most mechanical switches and other scissor switches, each switch is an individual module which is supposed to be surface-mount soldered onto a PCB.
Return force is provided by pulling a coiled spring laterally between the scissor-legs. The contact mechanism uses terminals with a gold crosspoint.
Unlike the competing Omron B3KL series, there is no Fresnel lens for dispersing backlight from a surface-mounted LED. The spring is in the middle of the switch, allowing backlighting to be only above and/or below it.
Variants[edit | edit source]
It is available from Cherry in a clicky, and a tactile non-clicky variant. Apart from one having audial feedback, official specs for both switch variants are the same.
