While the Space Saving Keyboard was usually available for the same price as the Enhanced Keyboard when bundled with an IBM system, it seems that most customers preferred the full size board, and thus the Space Saving Keyboard is less common. As with the Enhanced Keyboard, the Space Saving Keyboard had the Model M manufacturing designation. Part number 1391472 is one such variation. Another is 1392934 (which was made around 1987). ==Features and design== The number pad was integrated with the keyboard. Shift-NumLk would switch normal alphabet keys to keypad function. The top row 7, 8, 9 keys stayed the same, the U, I, O keys became 4, 5, 6, respectively, and J, K, L became 1, 2, 3, respectively. Lastly, M became 0. If Shift was pressed while in NumLk mode, those keys became navigation keys, with the same functions as the dedicated keys down the right side of the keyboard (Insert, Home, PgUp, Del, End, PgDn and the 4 arrow keys). Unfortunately, the keyboard has no lights to indicate the mode of the keys. <gallery widths=250 heights=147> File:20160331 151012d.jpg | Embedded number pad - IBM 1391472 File:20160331 151012e.jpg | Embedded number pad - highlighted File:20160331 151012f.jpg | Embedded number pad - navigation </gallery> ==Gallery== <gallery widths=250 heights=187> File:IBM Space Saving Keyboard with RGB modifiers.jpg | SSK customized with [[RGB modifiers]] File:SSK for airline reservation system.jpg | SSK for airline reservation system File:IBM SSK 41G3604 top.jpeg | Industrial SSK with German layout (41G3604) File:IBM SSK 41G3604 label.jpeg | Label of industrial SSK with German layout </gallery> <gallery widths=250 heights=187> File:IBM SSK 03.jpg | IBM SSK top view File:IBM SSK 01.jpg | IBM SSK top view File:IBM SSK 02.jpg | IBM SSK top view File:IBM SSK 08.jpg | IBM SSK logo view File:IBM SSK 07.jpg | IBM SSK close-up view File:IBM SSK 05.jpg | IBM SSK cable view File:IBM SSK 04.jpg | IBM SSK label view File:P1010805.jpg | IBM SSK Bolt Mod File:P1010806.jpg | IBM SSK Bolt Mod File:P1010807.jpg | IBM SSK Bolt Mod </gallery> ==References== <references> <ref name=ZG92-0306>IBM Announcement Letter No. ZG92-0306 dated September 15, 1992 β [http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/printableversion.wss?docURL=/common/ssi/rep_ca/6/877/ENUSZG92-0306/index.html&request_locale=en Physical Specifications (of the 84-key Space-saving Industrial Keyboard)] (IBM.com)</ref> <ref name="PCMag-19920225">Google Books β [https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=iYmIeqES1fYC&pg=PT280 PC Magazine, February 25, 1992] (The Write Stuff, pp. 303β329)</ref> </references> [[Category:IBM Model M keyboards]] [[Category:Tenkeyless keyboards]] [[Category:Keyboards with buckling springs]] [[Category:Vintage keyboards]] [[Category:List of all IBM keyboards]] [[Category:List of all keyboards]]
