'''Acorn Computers Ltd.''' was a British computer manufacturer best known for the [[Acorn BBC Microcomputer|BBC Microcomputer]] range of machines, one the few 8-bit systems with a full-travel [[switch mount|plate-mounted]] mechanical keyboard. Acorn also created the ARM CPU in the mid 80s, originally the Acorn RISC Machine, before spinning off the department together with [[Apple]] as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd, now ARM Holdings. Intended only to power their Archimedes range of personal computers and laptops, it has gone on to become one of the most widely used microprocessors in the world, long after Acorn's own demise.

Acorn also created [[RISC OS]], an operating system with one of the most logical [[mouse button]] mappings devised. RISC OS is technically still developed, but most of its innovation was never copied.
