Assorted return springs

Many keyswitch designs make use of metal springs. Often these are steel, but some cheaper switches use copper-coloured, non-magnetic materials (in Hua-Jie switches, it is phosphor bronze).

Spring types

• Helical (coil) spring, used for return springs
• Leaf spring, used for click leaves amongst other things
• Rubber dome: most keyboards now use rubber domes for the return springs instead of steel helical springs
