The Cherry MX Red switch is a light, linear, non-clicky mechanical keyboard switch in the Cherry MX family. It is often preferred over tactile switches for gaming. ==History== The switch first appeared in November 2008 on the streets of Tokyo. The Cherry G80-3600 keyboard was marketed and distributed exclusively in Japan by the computer hardware company Scythe. Originally only available in the Japanese Layout (G80-3600LYCJA) and the US-ANSI layout (G80-3600LYCEU), further Korean and Chinese variants of the keyboard later appeared throughout Asia at various online retailers, although without the Scythe branding. ==Keyfeel== The Cherry MX Red is a lighter variant of the Cherry MX Black linear switch. ==Availability== In an order request in 2010 Cherry claimed the switch to be no longer in production. The statement was confirmed when a member of Ducky admitted that the switches used in the limited edition Ducky keyboards were indeed soldered out of Cherry G80-3600s. However, in 2012 the switch had become popular with a growing number of keyboards produced that use it, including the Leopold and Filco Majestouch product ranges. Besides the Cherry G80-3494, a large number of gaming oriented keyboards are readily available using this switch. ==Gallery== <gallery widths=250px heights=187> File:Cherry MX red switches.jpg|Cherry MX Red switches in the Cherry G80-3600 File:Phantom_mx_009.jpg|MX red switches in shipping box. </gallery> ==References== <references> <ref name="Akiba"> Akiba PC Hotline — CHERRYの「赤軸」キーボード展示中 (Japanese only) Dated 2008-11-15.
