stub FR Electronics RSM 82-1A is a reed switch, using a design very similar to Unitra Dolam M-24-112. ==Description== The base of the switch has six holes for terminals: four for two reed modules (likely providing DPST rather than double-action) and two for illumination which line up with channels in the centre shaft that hold a lamp. An FR-branded illuminated version has never been seen, but the RRE illuminated counterpart is RRE RKS 80-1AL. "1A" likely indicates 1 form A (SPST NO); whether "RSM" or "RSM 82" indicates the name of the series remains unknown. The DPST version is presumably RSM 82-2A. ===Series=== The identity of the series is not known. Racal used RSM 83-1A for the front panel of the RA1792 radio receiver; this is a heavier switch than RSM 82-1A. Additional part numbers exist with the "RSM" prefix; related part numbers appear to include RSM62-1A, RSM62-1AL (using a 28 V lamp), RSM82-1A, RSM82-2AX and RSM83-1A. Whether RSM 6x and RSM 8x are the same or separate series cannot be determined. Note that an "L" suffix for a lamp applies to these part numbers also. ==Disassembly== The base of the switch can be removed by prying open the switch using a thin blade. The reed unit terminals appear to push into the base of the switch from the outside, making the reed assembly non-removable. The reed capsule itself is attached to the terminals using a seemingly invisible amount of solder, or some other visually non-detectable process. ==Keyboards== *Plessey Displays keyboard, ca. 1984 ==Gallery== <gallery widths=250 heights=187> File:FR-RRE reed switch comparison.jpg | Comparison with FR Electronics RSM 82-1A File:FR Electronics RSM 82-1A -- opened.jpg | Opened File:FR Electronics RSM 82-1A -- spring and slider removed.jpg | Spring and slider removed </gallery> ==References== <references> </references>
