Can we agree to have references immediately after the main content, and leave external links for the end? This would match Wikipedia as well and I think it is a good idea<sup>TM</sup>.

:The choice of reference vs external link (at the bottom) vs inline hyperlink is a difficult one and a continual source of trouble in trying to choose; I'm not entirely opposed to inline links to other sites, so long as they're formatted in an accessible and presentable way (no "click here", for people who can't click or who need to understand the target of the link through audible means).
