The [[Keyboard layouts#Malt|Maltron keyboard layout]] was created by Lillian Malt. The merits of the design are detailed in her paper titled "Keyboard Design in the Electronic Era"<ref>maltron.com – [http://www.maltron.com/keyboard-info/academic-papers/236-lillian-malt-papers.html Lillian Malt Papers]</ref>, first presented at the PIRA conference in September 1977.

The popular [[Kinesis Advantage|Kinesis keyboard]] is based on the Maltron design, but the design historically omitted the [[numeric keypad]] in the centre of the keyboard in order to circumvent the Maltron patent.
