Mechanical Enterprises or MEI was an American electronics manufacturer founded by the late Robert H. Twyford.<ref name="WP">The Washington Post — ROBERT H. TYWFORD [sic] Obituary</ref> MEI introduced the Microtype Space-Saving Keyboard around 1988 which, after the company was reincorporated as Datalux in 1990,<ref name="WP" /> became the Datalux SpaceSaver series.
